About Us

The South Bend Elks Lodge #235 is located at 3535 McKinley Avenue, in South Bend, Indiana.
Every year we host a variety of fund raising events to benefit our community through scholarship funds, Veterans, and the ELKS Cancer Research Program.

Our Mission: To inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share

What Do Elks Do?

The Elks are more than just a social club.  We are community and charity focused.  So much so that we have multiple projects going on at all times.

On a national scale we have the Elks National Foundation.  All lodges contribute to the ENF every year and in return they can receive grants to help with community projects.  We have used our grants for such projects as Rebuilding Together and St. Margaret's House.  Read more about the
 Elks National Foundation.

At the state level the project is Cancer Research and lodges throughout Indiana have events to help raise money that is then donated to cancer research donating to Indiana University and Purdue University research centers. There is more information at the
 Indiana Elks Association.

Each lodge has the Parade of Nickels cans to collect change for any project the lodge chooses.  South Bend Elks has decided to use the funds from the Parade of Nickels for
Miller's Vets in South Bend.  The Robert L. Miller Veterans Center is dedicated to helping homeless veterans and everything that we collect from the Parade of Nickels goes to their great work.
Go to the Elks National website to read more about the history between Elks and our
 veterans.

Then there are youth programs that lodges participate in such as the
Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, and Drug Awareness Program.

Lodges also offer scholarships with winners having more opportunities at the
state and national level.  If you have a student in high school, start looking into the opportunity that the Elks could offer your soon-to-be graduate.
Did you know that the US Government is the only organization to give out more scholarship money that the Elks give?  Well, now you do.

Hoop Shoot

The Elks Hoop Shoot competition is free and open to all boys and girls aged 8 - 13 (as of 01 April next year).  Winners at each level have the opportunity to move on and compete at the next level.
There is no charge to participate in ANY competition so mark your calendar and START PRACTICING!
Watch our website and check out our Facebook page for the Hoop Shoot schedule!

The Elks Creed

Believe in the goodness of thyself as well as in others

Cherish with reverence the memory of those who have passed
Observe faithfully the Golden Rule
Enjoy the good things of Earth
Keep within thee the glorious sunshine of youth
And remain always in good cheer
